"Canary" is a carefully edited slide sequence of still photographs, projected onto a wall and accompanied by an atmospheric soundtrack. The photographs were taken by Lieko Shiga during residencies in Brisbane and Sendai in 2006, and were made into a projected work for exhibitions in Australia and Sendai in late 2006. more...

Architect Kengo Kuma has recently won several highly coveted competitions at home and abroad. Studies in Organic, a solo exhibition at Tokyo's Gallery Ma, is a glimpse into his thriving practice. The gallery's main floor features models in various scales and prolific research material for over 30 projects that are either on the boards or under construction. Zenpukuji Park is a little jewel of green space set in an otherwise nondescript residential area of western Tokyo. The park surrounds two ponds -- one a small, reed-filled nature preserve full of ducks, egrets and water lilies, the other a larger lake that attracts flotillas of rent-a-boaters on weekends. more... |
