belt a space in between. (Unit 1, Vyner st, Bethnal Green Nov 96 - July 99) neither completely prvate or completely public, but something in between. Described as a meeting place, a living room, a salon. A place for uncertainty , for experiments that could possibly fail. The space opened as belt in November 1996. It was set up as a place to explore the terrain of uncertainty, attempting to break expectations of when a work begins and ends. It comes from an art background, but does not soley intend to widen the field of art , but to alter our approach towards our culture. Investigating different ways to communicate, belt is open to projects, talks, events and collaborations that ask involvement with audience. Belt has worked with artists, musicians, scientists, curators, approximately hosting 2 projects every month. the belt network has formed organically, publicising through word of mouth and a growing mailing list.
On July 1st 1999, belt moved base. Currently is undergoing reconstruction. 2nd phase belt projects as a movable idea, working directly in dialogue with individuals, and other organistations.
Current projects;
* The 3 graces, a live database project in collaboration with Ana Laura lopez de la Torre (a research into the distribution of information through friendship)
* sqal/lp: a ten day live project, belt in collaboration with Ken Turner and Brighton University.
* Portable live archive & Exchange points.(investigation into the notion of meeting place, and exchange of information)
belt projects are intimate, focusing on the act of exchange and interconnections of ideas. Placing value on communication between people. belt will always be an experiemnt. belt is a project run by Ella Gibbs

Beltは"in between"のスペースである（Unit 1, vyner Street, Bethnal Green Nov 96-July 99）。 完全にプライベートでもなく、完全にパブリックでもない、何かその間のスペース。人と出会うミーティングの場、リビング・ルーム、サロンのような場所でもあり、不確定な場所、失敗してしまう可能性のある実験を行なうための場所。
スペースは1996年11月に不確定性の領域を探求するための場所、いつ作品が始まり、終るのかといった決まりきった予定調和を壊していこうとする試みのための場所としてオープンした。確かにアートというバックグラウンドを基本としているが、 Beltはアートの領域を広げようとする活動というのではなく、私達の文化に対する姿勢やアプローチを変えていこうとする試みである。
異なるかたちのコミュニケーションを追求するため、Beltはいろいろなプロジェクト、トーク、イヴェント、オーディエンスの参加を求める形でのコラボレーションなどの企画に対して開かれた場であり、今までにも、アーティスト、ミュージシャン、科学者、キューレターなどと共に、毎月約2つのプロジェクトをホストするかたちで活動してきた。
Beltのネットワークは“word of mouth（人づてのうわさ）”と増え続けるメーリングリストによって有機的に広がって形成されてゆくものである。
1999年7月1日、ベースであったスペースから移転。現在スペースは準備中だが、第2期のBeltは、“movable idea（移動するアイデア）”として、個人や団体との直接のダイアローグを通じて展開していく。

Beltのプロジェクトは親密で、exchange、という行為と、アイデアのinterconnectionを目的とし、人と人との間のコミュニケーションに価値を置くものです。Beltは常に実験であり続けるでしょう。Beltはエラ・ギブスによって運営されているプロジェクトです。
