monade contemporary | 単子現代では、尾角典子／Ebe Okeによる展覧会「キメラの誕生日に | On the Birthday of Chimeras」を開催します。

科学理論や神話、オカルト、民間伝承など、世界を解釈しようとする多様な知の体系にインスピレーションを受けて制作する尾角は、アニメーション、コラージュ、VR、AIなどを通じて、複層的な世界観に観客の参加を誘います。音、イメージ、パフォーマンスを通じて、人間と非人間の知覚のあいだにある多孔的な境界を探究するEbeは、動植物の生命活動に見られる振る舞いや、機械、鳥のさえずりがもつ音調的な言語から、異なる種やシステムを横断するコミュニケーションを再想像します。

本展では、人間の生存条件を超えた時空間や異なる種とともに人々が共生するための世界をつくり出すことを試みます。尾角は、福島県双葉郡葛尾村での滞在制作で発表した現代社会を駆動させる「電気」を新たな神話の系譜に位置づけるプロジェクトを作家自身の語り（音声）とともにアップデートし、言葉という構造を通じて現代に現れた新しい八百万の神々を観客の想像力のなか構築しようとします。またEbeは、アメリカ南部の鳥類保護区で過ごした経験をもとに非人間的な視点を前景化しつつ、アイデンティティ、アクセス、インクルージョンを規定する構造を検討する実践として制作してきた絵画、サウンド作品とともに、種やシステムを横断して立ち現れる共鳴や情動的な痕跡を浮かび上がらせます。

科学理論や神話、情報システム、動植物の生命活動が渾然となって一つの生命体、あるいは環境として現れるとき、人々の生存活動や倫理観はどのような変容を迫られることになるのでしょうか。人間の条件を新たに問いかける、キメラの誕生日にご参加ください。

尾角典子
ロンドンと京都を拠点に活動。科学的理論から神話、オカルト、民間伝承にいたるまで、世界を解釈しようとする多様な知の体系にインスピレーションを受け、それらを等価に織り交ぜる。RCAでアニメーションを学んだのち、コラージュ、VR、AIなどの複合的なテクノロジーを用いた表現を通じて、観客の能動的な参加を促し、単一の視点に縛られない複層的な世界観を提示している。主な展示やパフォーマンスに「生成の庭」(Hub-Ibaraki Art Project, 2025)、「#拡散展」(十和田市現代美術館 space、2024）、「THAT LONG MOONLESS CHASE / その長い月のない追跡」（金沢21世紀美術館、2023）、「VOCA展 2019」（上野の森美術館、東京）、「The Interpreter」（QUAD Gallery、イギリス、2015）など。主な受賞歴に、オーバーハウゼン国際短編映画祭インターナショナルコンペティション部門へのノミネーション（2016）、オタワ・アニメーション国際映画祭最優秀ミュージック・ビデオ賞受賞（2011）など。

Ebe Oke（イブ・オーク）
作曲家、画家、学際的アーティストであり、音、イメージ、パフォーマンスを通じて、人間と非人間の知覚の間にある多孔的な境界を探究している。自己主導的かつ探索的な学びを通じて形成されたエベの実践は、カールハインツ・シュトックハウゼンによる作曲指導をはじめ、AAブロンソン、ブライアン・イーノ、ローリー・アンダーソンらとのメンタリングやコラボレーションを通して発展してきた。これまでに、テート・セント・アイヴス、ロンドンのサーペンタイン・ギャラリー、ニューヨークのThe KitchenおよびPioneer Works、ノルウェーのPunkt Festival、スイスのアート・バーゼル、東京のDOMMUNEなどで国際的に作品を発表しているほか、カイロのバイオジオメトリー研究所内ミュージアム・オブ・コンシャスネスやオックスフォード大学との協働も行っている。

monade contemporary | 単子現代 is pleased to present On the Birthday of Chimeras by Noriko Okaku and Ebe Oke.

Drawing inspiration from diverse systems of knowledge that attempt to interpret the world, from scientific theories to myth, occultism, Okaku leads audiences to explore multiple perspectives through Animation, VR, and AI-driven works. Exploring the porous boundary between human and non-human perception through sound, image, and performance, Ebe reimagine communication across species and systems based upon the choreographies of animal and plant life and the tonal language of machines and birdsong.

This exhibition explores the possibility of worlds in which people coexist across temporalities that exceed human conditions of survival and alongside different species. Okaku updates a project originally developed during a residency in Katsurao Village, Futaba District, Fukushima Prefecture, which situates ‘electricity’— the force that drives contemporary society — within a newly imagined mythological lineage. Accompanied by the artist’s own spoken narration, the work seeks, through the structural medium of language, to prompt the audience to construct within their imagination a new constellation of myriad deities as they emerge in the present. Ebe, drawing on experiences shaped by time spent at a bird sanctuary in the southern United States, foregrounds non-human perspectives through paintings and sound works developed as a practice that critically examines the structures shaping identity, access, and inclusion. These works bring to the surface forms of resonance and affective traces that emerge across species and systems.

When scientific theories, myths, information systems, and the life processes of animals and plants converge to appear as a single organism — or as an environment — how might human modes of survival and ethical frameworks be called upon to transform? We invite you to join the birthday of chimeras, where the condition of the human is questioned anew.



Noriko Okaku
Based in London and Kyoto, Noriko Okaku works across multiple media, drawing inspiration from diverse systems of knowledge that attempt to interpret the world, from scientific theories to myth, occultism, and folklore—weaving them together with equal significance. After studying Animation at the Royal College of Art (RCA), she expanded her animation practice into collage, VR, and AI-driven works, embracing hybrid technologies as tools for world-building and inquiry. Through installations and immersive experiences, her work invites active participation, encouraging audiences to engage as co-creators and to explore perspectives beyond singular interpretations. Her notable exhibitions and performances include “Gardens of Becomings” (Hub-Ibaraki Art Project, 2025), “#Spread” (Towada Art Center, 2024), “THAT LONG MOONLESS CHASE” (21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, 2023), “VOCA 2019” (Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo), and “The Interpreter” (QUAD, UK, 2015). Her awards include a nomination for the International Competition at the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival (2016) and the Best Music Video Award at the Ottawa International Animation Festival (2011).

Ebe Oke
A composer, painter, and interdisciplinary artist whose work explores the porous boundary between human and non-human perception through sound, image, and performance. Evolving through a self-directed and exploratory education, Ebe’s practice has developed through composition lessons with Karlheinz Stockhausen and mentorships and collaborations with artists such as AA Bronson, Brian Eno, and Laurie Anderson. Their work has been presented internationally at venues including Tate St Ives, the Serpentine Gallery in London, The Kitchen and Pioneer Works in New York, Punkt Festival in Norway, Art Basel in Switzerland, Dommune in Tokyo, and in collaboration with the Museum of Consciousness at the Biogeometry Institute in Cairo and Oxford University.
