「ことばを食べるカフェ みずうみ」は、言葉が溢れては流れていく情報化社会の中で、言葉ひとつひとつをじっくりと味わい、忘れていた自分の「ことば」と「からだ」を思い出す場所です。一冊の本である『みずうみ』の底には、言葉の形をした化石が眠っています。水面に映るもうひとりの自分と話をしながら、記憶の地層を探ってみると……

自宅の一階で「ことばを食べるカフェ みずうみ」が始まって、10年が経ちました。大阪・谷町六丁目では訪れる方々と一緒に沢山の読書会を開き、京都に移転してからはギャラリーと併設し、ひっそり常設展のようなつもりで展開していましたが、始まりから10年を機に改個展（回顧展）として、半分は言葉だけの概念であった『みずうみ』をここに体現してみたいと思います。

〈展覧会情報〉
monade contemporary | 単子現代では、みずうみ による個展「ことばを食べるカフェ みずうみ」を開催します。

みずうみはこれまで、言葉のかたちをしたお菓子をつくり、言葉を食べるという体験ができるカフェをひとつのインスタレーション作品として制作してきました。カフェに見立てたスペースで読書会やワークショップを行いながら、言葉のかたちをしたお菓子を食べるという一連の出来事は、『みずうみ』というひとつの本のなかで起こる空想的な物語として展開されるといいます。

本展では、みずうみのこれまでの活動を振り返る個展として、言葉のクッキー、パフォーマンス、映像、詩歌、本などの作品を展示します。部屋、路上、あるいは森や湖畔にみずうみが存在し、言葉のかたちをしたクッキーを供するカフェが開かれると、ひとつの身体が言葉のなかでかたちを取り戻す出来事が起こります。ひとりの人による活動が喫茶や食事という行為とともに身体感覚をとおして共有されるうちに、カフェを構成するパフォーマンス／インスタレーションはアートスペースを起動する装置となるかのようです。

言葉のみずうみの底で記憶のかけらが声になるとき、その人はもう一人の自分とどのように出遭いなおすことになるのでしょうか。横溢する情報のなかで静かにたたずむ、波打ちぎわの饗宴にご参加ください。


みずうみ
2015年〜言葉の形をしたお菓子を作り始め、言葉を食べる体験をするカフェ型の長期的インスタレーション作品「ことばを食べるカフェみずうみ」の運営を続けている。
2016年〜大阪谷町に小さな青い空間を開き、訪れる方々と一緒にさまざまな読書会や展示パフォーマンスなどを企画。

2022年〜京都祇園の地下に移転、「monade contemporary | 単子現代」と併設し、ギャラリーの運営・コーディネーターも務める。

‘Kotoba wo Taberu Café Mizuumi’ is a place where, within an information-saturated society in which words overflow and drift away, each word can be savoured slowly and attentively, allowing us to rediscover our forgotten ‘words’ and our ‘bodies’.
At the bottom of a single book entitled Mizuumi, fossils shaped like words lie dormant. While conversing with another self reflected on the surface of the water, one begins to trace the geological layers of memory…

Ten years have passed since ‘Kotoba wo Taberu Café Mizuumi’ began on the first floor of a private home. In Tanimachiroku-chōme, Osaka, numerous reading groups were held together with visitors. After relocating to Kyoto, the project was developed alongside a gallery, quietly unfolding as if it were a permanent exhibition. Marking this ten-year anniversary, Mizuumi now presents a retrospective solo exhibition, giving form here to Mizuumi, which had existed for half its life as a concept made solely of words.

〈Exhibition Information〉
monade contemporary | 単子現代 is pleased to present Cafe the LAKE to Eat Words in a Book, a solo exhibition by Mizuumi.

Mizuumi has created sweets shaped like words and has produced a café in which visitors can experience eating words as a single installation work. While holding reading groups and workshops in a space conceived as a café, the series of events in which word-shaped sweets are eaten unfolds as a fantastical story that takes place within a single book called Mizuumi.

In this exhibition, as a solo show that looks back on Mizuumi’s activities to date, works including word cookies, performances, videos, poetry, and books are presented. Mizuumi exists in a room, on the street, or in a forest or by a lakeside, opens a café serving word-shaped cookies, and produces events in which a body regains its form within words. As the activities of one person are shared through bodily sensation together with the acts of drinking and eating, the performance/installation that constitutes the café becomes a dispositif that activates the art space.

When fragments of memory at the bottom of the lake of words become voices, how will that person encounter another self anew? We invite you to join a symposium at the shoreline, quietly standing amid an overflow of information.

Mizuumi
Since 2015, Mizuumi has been producing word-shaped sweets and continuing the long-term café-style installation project Kotoba wo Taberu Café Mizuumi (Cafe the LAKE to Eat Words in a Book), which offers the experience of eating words. From 2016, Mizuumi opened a small blue space in Tanimachi, Osaka, and organised various reading groups and exhibition performances together with visitors. In 2021, Mizuumi participated in the Storytelling Art Festival (Osaka). From 2022, the project relocated to a basement space in Gion, Kyoto, in conjunction with monade contemporary | 単子現代, where Mizuumi also serves as gallery coordinator. In 2024, Mizuumi participated in the Primitive Sense Art Festival (Nagano). In 2025, Mizuumi participated in the Memory Otherworld Art Festival (Shiga) and the Water Art Festival (Osaka), and performed in Practice in Thinking About Supporting Others by Ashita Kaetta (Osaka & Kyoto).
