今回は、パリの１３区で見つけた地球儀（球体）の話です。
ヴェニスの地図製作者であったヴィンチェンツォ・コロネッリは、Le Roi Soleil（太陽の王様）として知られる、フランスの王、ルイ１４世よりふたつの球体の制作依頼を受けました。
ヴィンチェンツォは、２年の歳月を費やし、それぞれの重量２トン、直径387センチの２つの球体を完成させたのです。ひとつは宇宙を表現していて、美しい動物の形をした星座を見せてくれます。
Vincenzo Coronelli (1650 - 1718)そして、もうひとつは地球を表しています。これは歴史的にも、また地理的にも興味をかき立てられるものです。カリフォルニアは島であり、日本は存在せずに、オーストラリアの境界は、はっきりしないところがいくつかあります。この地球儀は、ルイ１４世の権力を誇示するためであり、フランスの植民地や大陸発見を示すために作られました。なので、中立というわけにはいきませんが。。。
それでも、この２つの球体の美しさは信じられないほどで、驚くべき仕事です。木の骨組みをキャンバスが覆っていて、ペインティングは緻密で強烈で、丸い表面を見ていると目をどこで止めていいのかわからなくなります。
この２つの球体は、サイズの大きさのためあまり世間の目に触れることはありませんでしたが、あの美しいフランス国立図書館（フランソワ・ミッテラン図書館）で現在公開されています。
もしパリにお越しの際は、お出かけください。目にする機会は、めったにないでしょうから。

Francois Mitterand)／フランス国立図書館（フランソワ・ミッテラン図書館）Vincenzo Coronelli a Venetian cartographer was asked to build these two globes for French king Louis XIV, Le Roi Soleil.
It took him 2 years to build the pair, each of them weights 2 tons
and have a diameter of 387 cm. One represents the cosmos showing some
fantastic animals shaped constellation.
And the other shows the earth, the piece is historically and geographically interesting, California is an island, Japan doesn't exist, Australia has some blurred limits, the globe had for mission to show the power of Louis XIV, the French discoveries, colonies... not neutral.
But it's aesthetically that the globes are unbelievable, an amazing work, they made of a wooden structure covered by a canvas. The paintings are precise and intense, eyes don't know where to stop while looking at the round surface.
Due to their size, the globes didn't appear that much since their making, but they are now showed in the beautiful BNF ( Library Francois Mitterand).
If you're in Paris, go see them, we might have never seen something like that.
