Curatorial Statement
日本とアメリカにルーツを持つMILES AKIRAは、「移動」によって生まれる人や物、所在、歴史の間に生じる関係を取り持つ形で自身を介入させ、形に残す制作・実践をしているアーティストです。
本展では、彼が2023年から2024年にかけて滞在していた、カナダ・バンクーバーで知り合った人や物事に焦点を当て、家／home についてあらゆる視点から問い直す作品群を展開します。

中でも注目いただきたいのが、現地で知り合い、滞在中に亡くなった方から引き継いだ部屋にまつわる作品です。その一連の出来事は彼にとって、家／homeとは何なのかを問う大きなきっかけとなりました。そのほか、「動き」を象徴する水面のドローイングや、国境を越えた物の移動にフォーカスした“From”シリーズの新作を展示いたします。

また、9/13(日)に開催するイベント「交差点＃12 From home, to home」では、彼の視点や言葉に触れつつ、建築物や帰る場所、安心できる場所としてなど、様々な視点で家／homeについて一緒に考えるワークを行います。

本展を通し、私たちが生きていく上で切っても切り離せない、人や物、国や故郷、家や安心できる場所について考えるきっかけになれば幸いです。

MILES AKIRA, who has roots in both Japan and the United States, is an artist whose practice intervenes in and gives form to the relationships that emerge between people, objects, places, and histories through “movement”.
This exhibition focuses on the people and things he encountered during his stay in Vancouver, Canada, from 2023 to 2024, presenting a body of work that reconsiders the meaning of home from various perspectives.
Of particular note is a series of works relating to a room that AKIRA inherited from someone he met locally and who passed away during his stay. This series of events became a significant catalyst for him to question what home means. The exhibition also features drawings of water surfaces, symbolizing “movement”, as well as new works from his From series, which focuses on the movement of objects across national borders.
On Sunday, September 13, the event Intersection #12: From home, to home will invite participants to consider the idea of home from various perspectives—as an architectural structure, a place to return to, a place where one feels safe, and more—while engaging with AKIRA's perspective and words.
We hope that this exhibition will provide an opportunity to reflect on the people and objects, countries and places of origin, homes and places of comfort that are inseparable from the way we live.
